How we handle your personal and health information — plainly explained.
Last Updated: May 5, 2026
At Beyond Neighbours House Call Clinic, we take privacy seriously. We're physicians — your trust is everything, and protecting your information is part of caring for you well.
This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and what rights you have. We've written it in plain language on purpose. If you have questions after reading this, reach out — we're happy to explain anything.
This policy applies to the Beyond Neighbours website at beyondneighbours.com and to our clinical practice.
Applicable laws: We operate under Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), the Health Information Act (HIA), Canada's federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) for activities crossing provincial boundaries, and Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) for electronic communications.
We collect information in three ways: when you contact us, when we provide care to you, and automatically when you use our website.
When you fill out our contact form, call, or email us, we may collect:
When you become a patient of Beyond Neighbours, we collect health information necessary to provide care, including:
Health information is governed by Alberta's Health Information Act (HIA) and is subject to stricter protections — see Section 5 for details.
When you visit our website, certain technical information is collected automatically:
This information is collected through third-party services (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, WhatConverts) only with your consent via our cookie banner.
We use the information we collect only for legitimate purposes:
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for purposes you would not reasonably expect.
We use the following third-party services on our website. Each is subject to its own privacy policy.
Analytics and advertising tracking services only activate after you give consent through our cookie banner. If you haven't consented, those services don't receive your data. You can change your preferences at any time using the cookie settings link in our website footer.
These third-party services may process data on servers outside Canada. Where this occurs, we rely on the consent you provide through our cookie banner as the legal basis for that transfer, consistent with PIPEDA requirements.
Our website uses cookies — small text files stored in your browser — for different purposes:
When you first visit our site, our CookieYes banner will ask for your preferences. You can accept all, reject non-essential cookies, or customize your choices.
You can update your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the cookie settings link in the footer. Withdrawing consent will not affect any prior lawful processing.
For a full inventory of the specific cookies we use, see our cookie declaration managed by CookieYes.
Health information is treated with the highest level of care and protection. It is governed by Alberta's Health Information Act (HIA), which sets strict rules for how custodians of health information — including physicians — must collect, use, and disclose that information.
We collect health information only with your explicit consent, and only the information reasonably required to provide you with care.
Your health information is used solely to provide, manage, and coordinate your healthcare. We do not use health information for marketing or advertising purposes.
Your health information is not shared with anyone outside your care team without your consent, except as required or permitted by law — for example, mandatory reporting obligations or where disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm.
With your consent, we may share relevant information with other healthcare providers involved in your care (specialists, hospitals, pharmacists).
Health records are stored securely with access limited to authorized members of your care team. Electronic records are encrypted in transit and at rest.
Your health information is retained for a minimum of 10 years after your last patient encounter, as required by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and the HIA.
You have the right to request access to your health records. You also have the right to request corrections to information you believe is inaccurate or incomplete. To make such a request, contact our Privacy Officer (see Section 11).
We keep information only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, or as required by law:
When retention periods expire, information is securely deleted or anonymized.
Under PIPA and the HIA, you have meaningful rights over your personal and health information:
To exercise any of these rights, contact our Privacy Officer (see Section 11). We will respond within 30 days.
We take the security of your information seriously and have implemented safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data:
No system is perfectly immune to threats, but we take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect your information and would notify you promptly in the event of any breach that creates a real risk of significant harm, as required by law.
Beyond Neighbours primarily serves seniors and adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18 without the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
If you believe a child's information has been submitted to us without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will address it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, if we add new services, change our use of technology, or if the law changes. When we do, we'll revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
If we make material changes that affect how we handle your information, we'll take reasonable steps to notify you (such as a notice on our website).
Continued use of our website or services after a policy update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. If you disagree with a change, please contact us or discontinue use of the service.
If you have questions about this policy, want to exercise your privacy rights, or have a concern about how we've handled your information, please contact our Privacy Officer:
We will acknowledge your request within 5 business days and respond fully within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta:
We'd rather explain it in a conversation than leave you guessing.
